Sliding Door System

A sliding door system is a type of door that opens horizontally by sliding on a track, rather than swinging on hinges. This mechanism makes it an excellent space-saving solution for both interior and exterior applications.

Types of Sliding Door Systems

Sliding doors are categorized by their operation and mounting style. The main types are:

1. Standard Bypassing Sliders

This is the most common type, often used for patios, closets, and room dividers. Two or more panels slide past each other on parallel tracks.

· Operation: Only one panel is operational at a time, sliding in front of the fixed panel(s).

· Best for: Standard patio doors, closets where not all panels need to open.

2. Pocket Doors

These are interior doors that slide completely into a "pocket" built within the wall.

· Operation: The door slides on a track and disappears into the wall cavity.

· Best for: Small rooms (e.g., bathrooms, pantries), hallways, or areas where a swinging door would be obstructive.

· Consideration: Requires significant wall framing during construction or renovation.

3. Multi-Panel or Bi-Parting Sliding Doors

Also known as "accordion" or "wall slide" doors, these systems have multiple panels that stack together.

· Operation: Panels slide along multiple tracks, stacking to one or both sides to create a wide, unobstructed opening.

· Best for: Creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living spaces (e.g., opening up an entire wall to a deck or garden).

4. Barn Doors

A style of sliding door that is mounted on the exterior of the wall, with hardware that is often decorative and rustic.

· Operation: The door hangs from a track mounted on the wall surface, sliding past the doorway.

· Best for: Interior applications where a bold design statement is desired (e.g., bedrooms, bathrooms, living areas). Not suitable for exterior or sound/privacy-critical applications.
